General Sumlut Gun Maw is a brigadier general. His current military appointment is vice-chief of staff. Aside from being a key part of the peace negotiations, he is known and sought out for his civilian and education-minded programs. Within the first week of the resumed conflict, he opened a public library in Laiza. He is one of the only senior leaders with a degree from a Burmese university.
